ARISE event: Co-Developing our Coastal Resilience Community of Practice

Looking out to sea past a row of colourful beach huts

The ARISE team have run several meetings of the Community of Practice with a focus on the sustainability of coastal lives, coastal living and the coastal environment in Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and Kent. They are keen to share insights and co-develop a plan for the future of the Community.

The Coastal Resilience Community of Practice was formed as a space for individuals, organisations, policy makers, managers, community members and activists to share insights, build collaborations, and learn about (and from) each other. It is open to anyone with an interest in coastal resilience.

It was initially formed as part of the ARISE Initiative, one of the four projects funded by the Resilient Coastal Communities and Seas Programme. They have run one in-person day event and several online meetings. They developed a (free to download) book to share initial insights, and a range of themes that have emerged from these discussions. They are now eager to learn more.

The ARISE Initiative is interested in co-developing a strategy that helps put the Community of Practice on a sustainable, long-term footing. This event aims to identify objectives for the group that meet the needs of the community, are accessible, and provide meaningful opportunities to better understand real-world problems in the resilience of our coasts.

If this sounds like something you would like to be part of – perhaps you have already come to some events, or it may be your first time hearing about it – please come to the University of East Anglia on the 13th November.

All perspectives, experiences, and expertise are welcome and equally valued.

For those who are not attending through their work, the ARISE Initiative may be able to contribute to the costs of attending this event. Please email Scott at s.leatham@uea.ac.uk.
