Coast-R Webinar co-organised with the LGA Coastal SIG

The second session in our new Coast-R Network Webinars Series is a collaboration with the Local Government Association’s Coastal Special Interest Group. We will present three speakers on diverse projects relating to sustainability of our coasts and ports.

We look forward to welcoming:

  • Prof Robert Nicholls, University of Southampton/Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research: ‘Introduction to infrastructure for Port cities And Coastal Towns network – iPACT’.
  • Dr Toby Roberts, University of Southampton: ‘Sustainable Development in Port Cities’.
  • Dr Dawn-Marie Walker, University of Southampton: ‘Coastal Connections: Systems and Synergy’.

The webinar will be chaired by the Coast-R Network’s Prof Stuart McLelland. Stuart is Deputy Director of the Energy and Environment Institute at the University of Hull and Professor of Water Science, conducting research focused on the experimental modelling of rivers and coasts, and particularly understanding how climate change impacts on these environments.

Speaker Biographies

Prof Robert Nicholls
 
Prof Robert Nicholls is affiliated with the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research at the University of East Anglia where he was formerly the Director. He is also affiliated with the School of Engineering, University of Southampton. Robert’s research focuses on coastal problems and finding solutions often taking a systems which facilitates policy analysis. Much of his work has focused on sea-level rise and climate change where he has extensive international and global experience, especially in coastal cities, deltas and small islands.


 

Dr Toby Roberts
 
Dr Toby Roberts is a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Southampton, whose research has focused on sustainability issues in port cities. After his PhD he worked as part of the Introduction to infrastructure for Port cities And Coastal Towns network (iPACT), particularly focusing on Southampton, working on projects to better connect the port and the city.


 

Dr Dawn-Marie Walker

Dr Dawn-Marie Walker
 
Dr Dawn-Marie Walker is Associate Dean for Equality, Diversity and inclusivity within the Faculty of Environmental and Life Sciences at the University of Southampton. Dawn is a passionate advocate for evidence-based approaches to addressing health inequalities. Her research focuses on understanding how place and environment impact health outcomes, particularly for vulnerable populations, ie. socio-environmental causes of health inequalities.
